Western EcoSystems Technology, Inc. (WEST), a dynamic medium size consulting firm with offices across the United States, is looking for a part time, experienced Field Technician near Mirando City, Texas. Since 1990, WEST has grown to be one of the premier environmental and statistical consulting firms in the United States. WEST has a permanent core of professionals with broad experience in basic and applied ecological studies and the sophisticated analysis of natural resource data. Description: WEST is seeking field technicians for wind-wildlife survey fieldwork near the Mirando City area, ideally based out of Laredo or Kingsville, TX. Qualified candidates will have strong bird and bat identification skills. The position is anticipated to start mid-August and will continue through mid-November, 2017. The primary job responsibility will be to monitor for bird and bat fatalities at an operational wind farm. Additionally, technicians will be expected to use compasses, GPS, range finders, and digital cameras (which will be provided by WEST). Technicians will be required to follow all safety protocols required by WEST and the wind energy facility. Training will be provided for all survey efforts. Successful candidates will be team players that will communicate effectively with supervisors in a timely manner, adhere to instructions, have excellent organizational skills, and the capability to conduct field surveys independently, effectively, and safely under sometimes difficult terrain and weather conditions. Start date: August 2017 End Date: November 2017 Compensation: DOE
Bachelor’s degree in biology, wildlife management, natural resources, or equivalent is preferred; however, current undergraduates are encouraged to apply. Previous experience conducting wildlife field surveys is highly desired. Must be able to work independently and interact professionally with project managers and clients. Must be able to follow protocols and be able to identify birds and bats within the region. Applicants should be in good physical shape, as surveys will be conducted in locations where temperatures and conditions can be extreme.
