    Utah Division of Wildlife Resources – Southeastern Region is looking for a seasonal field technician to conduct bird surveys across the Colorado Plateau in southeastern Utah from late Feb to the end of May, with a possible extension into June or July (exact dates to be determined). The technician will perform Pinyon Jay surveys and colony searches, Bendire’s Thrasher surveys, and participate in IMBCR point-count surveys (see https://birdconservancy.org/what-we-do/science/monitoring/imbcr-program/ for details). This position requires traveling to various survey locations and camping nearby, generally alone, and often in remote settings. Data entry and proofing is also required.

    Preference will be given to applicants that can identify birds by sight and sound, especially with previous experience identifying western species found on the Colorado Plateau. Applicants also must have a valid driver’s license, be able to drive 4wd trucks, and have the ability to navigate in rough, often complex terrain (experience using maps, compasses, and hand-held GPS units). ATV experience is a plus. Having the ability to follow complex protocols, learn quickly, make decisions, and pay attention to detail will be required to be successful in this position. Must be able to work independently and be comfortable spending days at a time camping in remote areas, often without cell phone coverage. Starting salary is $11.49 - $12.79/hr depending on experience. This position is based out of our Price, Utah office and housing when in Price may be provide. Food is covered while camping for fieldwork.
