    Intern needed for shorebird study in Alaska

    The University of Alaska Anchorage and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game are recruiting an intern to help with a study of Lesser Yellowlegs migration, survival, and genetics in Anchorage, Alaska. The intern must commit a minimum of 4 weeks between 15 May and 20 June, 2019. Duties include capturing and tagging birds, finding and monitoring nests, re-sighting leg bands, and surveying wetlands. Applicants must have the ability to remain cheerful and focused while enduring long days of strenuous physical activity and adverse weather conditions (rain, heat, mosquitoes, etc.). Previous field work experience is preferred but not required. Housing and a stipend of $1000 will be provided.     A strong interest in avian ecology.
    Ability to navigate using compass and GPS. 
    Ability to take detailed notes and meticulously fill out data sheets. 
    Ability to work long, irregular hours, including weekends.  
    Ability to hike over uneven ground carrying heavy loads.
    A valid driver’s license.
    Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions.
    Comfortable working and living closely with others.
