    The University of Alaska Anchorage and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game are recruiting an experienced avian field technician to help with a study of Lesser Yellowlegs migration, survival, and genetics in Anchorage, Alaska. The project will take place from 6 May through 20 June, 2019. Duties include capturing and tagging birds, finding and monitoring nests, re-sighting leg bands, and surveying wetlands for passerines and shorebirds. Applicants must be willing to endure long days of strenuous physical activity and adverse weather conditions (rain, wind, heat, mosquitoes, etc.). Prior experience capturing and handling birds is necessary, and experience re-sighting bands and nest searching is desired. The technician will be paid approximately $21/hr and accommodation will be provided.     Ability to navigate using compass and GPS.

    Ability to take detailed notes and meticulously fill out data sheets.

    Experience capturing and handling birds, re-sighting color bands, and nest searching.

    Ability to work long, irregular hours, including weekends.

    Ability to hike over uneven ground carrying heavy loads.

    A valid driver’s license and ability to operate 4WD vehicles.

    Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions.

    Comfortable working and living closely with other technicians.
