    SEASONAL AVIAN ECOLOGIST (2) needed for a study of songbirds at the Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory in the southern Appalachians of western North Carolina. Target species include Canada warbler, Black-throated blue warbler, and Hooded warbler amongst others. We collect data on almost every aspect of avian ecology.

    Need 2 Nest-searchers: Experience in searching for small open cup nesting passerines is necessary. Additionally, experience searching for ground nesting species preferred. Ability to target net and band passerines also preferred. Position also requires good color vision, ability to identify eastern birds by sight and sound, the ability to hike navigate, and work alone in rugged terrain and variable weather conditions, and an interest in avian ecology. Duties will include: Daily nest-searching, nest checks, re-sighting color banded warblers, point-counts, color banding warblers, data collection, management, and significant data entry. Nest searchers will also be required to assist graduate students with specific projects. Nest-searchers may also have the opportunity to assist with banding operations.

    Position also necessitates attention to detail, self-motivation, a positive attitude, and the ability to work long days in the field with biting insects and aggressive vegetation. Field days will often begin before dawn. We are looking for someone who can be independent when needed but able work and live closely with co-workers. Work begins mid to late April and lasts until mid-July. Shared housing and a stipend of $1200-$1600 per month, commensurate with experience, will be provided.
