We need 1 Banding/point count Technician with significant experience in bird banding, mist net extraction, in-hand avian ID skills, and taking feather and blood samples of small songbirds. Position also requires good color vision, ability to identify eastern birds by sight and sound, the ability to hike navigate, and work alone in rugged terrain and variable weather conditions, and an interest in avian ecology. Duties will include: Day-to-day operations of small banding stations (10-nets) including banding/color banding, data collection, data management, weather calls, and management/training of a mist-net assistant or intern. Other duties will include point-counts, target netting target species, re-sighting color banded warblers, assisting graduate students with projects, and significant data entry.
Position also necessitates attention to detail, self-motivation, a positive attitude, and the ability to work long days in the field with biting insects and aggressive vegetation. Field days will often begin before dawn. We are looking for someone who can be independent when needed but able work and live closely with co-workers. Work begins mid to late April and lasts until mid-July. Shared housing and a stipend of $1200-$1600 per month, commensurate with experience, will be provided.
