Fern Davies
October 1, 2010 To Stakeholders and Interested Parties Subject: Management of Incidental Take of migratory birds Since late 2007 you have been invited to provide input into the development of a new approach to the management of incidental take of migratory birds. Many detailed and thorough comments and materials were provided. They inform our continuing path forward and I am very grateful for that. As a result of this input and considering other regulatory change priorities, Environment Canada will not be requesting regulatory amendments, but will focus on the development of practices that provide tangible support to compliance with the existing prohibitions. In addition we will continue to work with interested parties to ensure a set of best practices that will help sustain populations of migratory birds in Canada and provide a solid basis for those that will want to use them. In that regards, the soon to be completed bird conservation region (BCR) plans will provide a useful base on which to build. We invite your participation to bringing existing practices to our attention and we look forward to working with you in the future. We will update our website as soon as possible to reflect this change.
