The site covers a unique mosaic of secondary and primary forest and palm swamp with some agricultural land along the Madre de Dios river, located 2km from the town of Puerto Maldonado in the Madre de Dios of southeastern Peru.

Your 10-day program (10D/9N) will include training in bird capture techniques using ground and canopy mist nets and possibly bal-chatri traps, data collection and discussion of field methods (instruction will be offered in English). It will also offer a rare opportunity to examine bird plumage variation by species, age and sex up-close on birds in the hand. Bring your cameras! Birds will be individually marked for long-term monitoring.

The program also includes an overnight field trip to Lago Sandoval (more birds species and giant river otters!), a morning visit to a gorgeous canopy bridge system and a visit to a parrot clay lick. Your accommodations will be comfortable in locally constructed cabins with new beds and mosquito nets. Purified water will be provided.
