We are pleased to announce that the Tennessee River Gorge Trust will be holding a beginner bird banding workshop in September 2016. Beginner Workshop: Monday, September 19 through Friday, September 23.

The workshop will begin before dawn on Monday (9/19) and end Friday (9/23) at noon. Participants will want to arrive Sunday evening (9/18) prior to the workshop for introductions. The majority of the subsequent 5 days will be spent in the field with live birds; however, these sessions will be complemented with some afternoon or evening presentations. This workshop is an excellent primer for NABC (North American Banding Council) Assistant or Bander Certification as we will cover banding ethics, banding methodology, molt terminology, and use of the Pyle Guide. Field experience will include handling, extracting, banding, and an introduction to ageing and sexing birds captured at TRGT’s stations in Chattanooga, TN. There is space available for 4-6 individuals. Preference will be given to those wishing to improve their ability to extract and age birds using molt limits. The cost is $650 per person and on site lodging, breakfast, and Dinner is included. Facilities are a rustic and remote bunk house, no electricity, and no running water, potable water is provided. This workshop will be NABC-approved and will be taught by a NABC-certified trainer.

Duration: 5 days

To Apply: To sign up, please email Lizzie Deiner at lizzied@trgt.org and include a banding resume and a statement outlining your interest in the workshop and how you intend to use the knowledge gained from the workshop.
