Golden-winged Warbler Habitat Best Management Practices for Forestlands in Maryland and Pennsylvania

With support from a National Fish & Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) grant, a team of Appalachian Mountains Joint Venture (AMJV) partners (AMJV staff, Indiana University of Pennsylvania [iUP], Pennsylvania Game Commission, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, ABC, and USFWS Region 5) developed the science-based document, “Golden-winged Warbler Habitat Best Management Practices (BMP) for Forestlands in Maryland and Pennsylvania.” Also under this grant, partners created, enhanced, or marked over 1,000 acres of high quality breeding habitat for Golden-winged Warblers following the recommendations contained within this document. We are now working with NFWF, Wildlife Management Institute (WMI), and other experts to integrate the recommendations from the Golden-winged Warbler forestland BMP with a BMP document previously developed for American Woodcock in the Appalachian Mountains. Many thanks to NFWF and all of our partners for their support on this project, and a special thanks to Jeff Larkin and Marja Bakermans (project leaders at IUP), Ben Jones and Dan Brauning (PA Game Commission), Gwen Brewer (MD DNR), Deb Reynolds (FWS Region 5 Migratory Birds did the layout/design of the document), Dan Petit at NFWF, WMI, and both the PA Bureau of Forestry and PA State Parks for their tremendous level of support throughout this project.
